SAD為甚麼好悲哀?

"Sad" 這個字當然不是開心的事,懂英語的人都會知道,但是夠國際視野、掌握時代脈搏的專業文字工作者一見到這3個字母,就明白它代表了一些社會的大趨勢兼且是江湖求存的大智慧,人家老外講時不致無知投降!
大寫的"SAD"至少代表了2個西方街知巷聞的概念:

(1)Standard American Diet

即是近年全球殺人最狠、教開悟一族聞之色變的西方飲食方式:餐餐漢堡包、薯片、汽水、炸雞之類,它的特點是3高3低:動物脂肪高、氫化飽和脂肪高、加工程度高、纖維低、複雜碳水化合物低、素食低。長期吃的結果是癌症、心臟病、中風、腸胃病、糖尿、肥胖症、皮膚病、便秘等等。

(2) Seasonal Affective Disorder

正式的中文名稱是「季節性情緒失調」,西方人亦稱之為"winter depression"(冬季抑鬱),指的是有些人每逢到了某個季節(最多是冬季),就會嚴重抑鬱。最常見的原因就是吸收陽光的正能量過少,導致體內多方面功能失衡。這種情況在北歐國家最普遍,冬天自殺率特別高。美國南部的發病率為每千人有14個、北部每千人達100個。

所以,做人不想SAD,由今天開始:吃得健康一點,適量曬太陽──尤其是在冬天!

SAD肯定還是不少概念、事物的簡稱,例如"Sum of Absolute Differences" (中文是「絕對差總和」)---- 究竟是什麼?數學盲的阿祥絕對不懂。(自己搞清楚:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sum_of_absolute_differences。)我倒相信,女兒心目中這個 Silly Affectionate Dad應該一點也不 sad。
